Event Description: This activity is geared toward medical examiners, forensic practitioners, law enforcement, EMT, attorneys, as well as medical providers on all levels with the aim of improving knowledge around forensically relevant topics. This year's conference will feature presentations about pediatric death investigations and common causes of death, changes to the State and Local Medical Examiner systems including the new LIS systems, sudden cardiac deaths and toxicology trends within the State of North Carolina.
Objectives
Improve knowledge of common causes of death in pediatric populations and how to investigate them.
Discuss appropriate techniques and information gathering in cases of pediatric deaths.
Improve knowledge and investigation of deaths due to sudden cardiac causes.
Cite current trends related to toxicology and overdose deaths in North Carolina.
Discuss upcoming changes within the medical examiner system and how it will effect practices.
