Event Description

The Nurse Educator Institute (NEI) is a competency-based curriculum written by nurse educators for nurse educators (or nurses exploring this role). Each of the four learning modules is interactive, engaging, and focuses on the core knowledge and skills required of faculty teaching in entry-level nursing education programs. An interactive Nurse Educator Institute workbook complements the learning activities of the online modules and invites the learner to incorporate reflective exercises, critical appraisal strategies and curriculum development exploration. Module 1: Socialization This module will examine the socialization process that changes a nurse from a caregiver to a nurse educator. Role theory is presented as one context through which this socialization process can be guided. Participants are encouraged to learn problem-solving mechanisms to cope with expected role conflict and promote conflict resolution. Module II: Teaching and Learning Methodologies This module will examine teaching/learning methodologies including historical educational principles. Learning styles will be incorporated into adult learner theory with an emphasis on generational diversity. Additional concepts will include clinical versus didactic learning, reflective practice, and the inclusion of information technology into nursing education curriculum. Module III: Curriculum Design Participating in curriculum design is an integral part of the role of an academic nurse educator. This module will examine the many components to the curriculum including the nursing education philosophy and mission, program outcomes, curriculum delivery and implementation, taxonomies of learning and ways to measure learning. Module IV: Improving Performance This module will integrate the concepts of testing and evaluation with the NCLEX test plan, taxonomies related to curriculum development, QSEN, and Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) processes. ONLINE DISCLOSURE The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to identify strategies that focus the learner to become socialized to the role of the nurse educator. Requirements for successful completion: Complete on-line module. Complete post-activity evaluation. Participation will be verified electronically through completion of registration. No conflicts of interest or relevant financial relationships have been reported by planners or authors of this activity.
