Target Audience
This activity is designed for county medical examiners, medicolegal death investigators, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, pathologist assistants, paramedics, law enforcement, attorneys, forensic scientists, students in criminal justice programs, emergency medical technicians, laboratory/ medical technicians and all others interested in updating their knowledge of forensic pathology.
Event Description
This activity is designed to improve knowledge about the North Carolina Medical Examiner System and reinforce appropriate practices and procedures. Attendees will know how to utilize a newly implemented documentation system. They will also learn to better perform scene investigations in cooperation with law enforcement. They will feel comfortable identifying and documenting sharp force injuries, investigating and documenting neonatal and pediatric deaths and providing witness testimony.
Objectives
- Integrate new and emerging changes within the North Carolina State Medical Examiner system into the practice.
- Know how to utilize new documentation systems.
- Correctly identify or document sharp force injuries.
- Understand how to investigate and document neonatal and pediatric deaths.
- Work cooperatively with law enforcement in scene investigations.
- Feel comfortable providing testimony in court or interacting with lawyers/ the legal system.
