Target Audience
This workshop will be beneficial to licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, social workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, substance use and addictions professionals, clinicians and all others interested in this topic.
Event Description
This workshop will present examples of complaints and details of cases brought to professional Licensure Boards where mental health professionals have been investigated and sanctioned. The presentation will review common types of professional behavioral infractions, ethical lapses, and the kinds of responses that Boards have used in disciplining licensees. The case examples should increase professional awareness of pitfalls to avoid and provide opportunities to discuss example scenarios and best practices. This 3 hour workshop will meet required Ethics CE criteria for psychologists and other mental health professionals. Objectives
- Describe 3 common areas of professional practice that lead to Board complaints or investigations.
- Describe the most common Dual Relationship behaviors that lead to problems with licensure Boards.
- Describe best practices for the most common professional behaviors that lead to Board complaints.

Ethical Psychopharmacology is a look at several different aspects of how psychoactive drugs are evaluated, marketed, and promoted by prescribers by looking at issues of transparency, research data, conflict of interest, funding sources and their interests, and informed consent. I will describe the drug approval process through the FDA, history of the DSM and how the diagnostic process has been influenced by money, big Pharma, and conflict of interest. We will look at some clever marketing messages and the difference between marketing and science.
