This activity has been planned for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, residents and fellows.

Event Description

The management of cardiogenic shock is complex and ever-changing field. Despite a growing body of literature, the mortality for patients with cardiogenic shock continues to remain unacceptably high. This educational opportunity will explore the background, pathophysiology, staging, and implementation of timely and effective management strategies that include both mechanical and pharmacologic support. A pre-conference dinner will be held Friday, August 28, 2026 at the NASCAR Hall of Fame (400 East Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Charlotte, NC) Pre-registration is required. Participants are able to attend the main conference in-person or via live steam. Limit 150 participants in-person. Live stream participants will not receive continuing education credit.

Objectives

  1. Recognize the clinical presentation of cardiogenic shock in diverse patient scenarios.
  2. Apply staging frameworks to accurately classify cardiogenic shock severity.
  3. Implement early stabilization strategies for patients presenting with cardiogenic shock.
  4. Identify and interpret key biochemical alterations associated with cardiogenic shock.
  5. Select and manage appropriate pharmacologic therapies for cardiogenic shock.
  6. Evaluate and utilize mechanical circulatory support options for patient stabilization.
  7. Determine when escalation of care is warranted based on clinical progression.
  8. Assess appropriate timing for de-escalation of care as patient status improves.
  9. Incorporate palliative care principles into the management of patients with cardiogenic shock.
