Courses and Events

This event will review components of performing a physical assessment. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a simulation providing care to a post-operative patient. The simulation experience will allow participants to practice wound care, medication administration, NG care, pain management and patient teaching.

The orientation for the clinical practicum will prepare the RN Refresher nurse for the clinical experience with a preceptor. Information will be provided to guide the RN Refresher through the preparation process. The RN Refresher must have completed and passed all required modules in the theory course before clinical placement can occur.

This program is for NC Health Department employees only. Beginning in 2026, HRRN transitions from pay for reporting to pay for performance, reinforcing NC Medicaid’s commitment to addressing social drivers of health. This session examines required screening components, best practices for documentation, and effective approaches for follow up and linkage to community based resources.

There is no charge for this program. Course registration is generously supported by the North Carolina Alliance of Public Health Agencies.

The RN Refresher program was developed in collaboration with the University of North Carolina School of Nursing and the William Friday Center, and is approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Nurses who have an active or inactive license, or have been away from nursing and want to update their knowledge and skills will benefit from this course.
