This course focuses on skills needed for providing basic breastfeeding management and support - including prenatal and postpartum counseling and management of common concerns and clinical problems. The training includes five days of didactic instruction, two days of clinical rotations in hospital and public health settings, and an independent study assignment.
Objectives
Discuss factors that contribute to the breastfeeding decision.
Explain the importance of optimal positioning and latch-on.
Identify common considerations and causes of issues with milk supply.
Describe hospital policies which contribute to successful breastfeeding.

Audience
Healthcare professionals, physicians, midwives, health educators, nurses, nutritionists, peer counselors and others who provide care to mothers and infants in any healthcare setting are encouraged to participate.
