Event Description: The Wake Forest-UNC-Duke Pediatric Anesthesiology Conference is a regional meeting intended to bring together many pediatric anesthesia faculty with both regional and national reputations to provide a day long conference designed to address topics related to the best practices in the care of children during the perioperative period. Some of the topics to be discussed include: point of care ultrasound, pediatric obesity, adolescent pain management, sustainability, and improving pediatric patient interactions. Attendees will take away a number of various techniques, ideas and knowledge that can be applied to improve their care of children during the perioperative period.

Objectives

Review the utility of POCUS skills and provide opportunity for hands-on workshop.

Apply current evidence for selection of appropriate pediatric patients for free standing surgical centers.

Summarize pertinent medical issues relevant to providing anesthesia for obese pediatric patients.

Develop independent plans for implementing quality improvement projects.

Understand rationale for TXA usage and be able to advocate for when to use or hold.

Describe current concerns with adolescent chronic pain management and options for prevention.

Implement strategies to increase environmental sustainability their practice.

Formulate a plan for management of anesthetic depth when intubating a child with a difficult airway.

Identify current challenges in providing anesthetic care and options for responding to these challenges.

Employ strategies to improve communication and interactions specific to pediatric patients.
