Event Description:  This educational activity is designed to equip healthcare providers with the knowledge and tools to effectively recognize and treat addiction as a chronic medical condition. Participants will:

Identify and manage substance use disorders using evidence-based approaches in both acute and long-term care settings.
Integrate peer support specialists into referral networks to enhance continuity of care and recovery support within primary care practices.
Support harm reduction efforts in their communities by promoting safe practices, reducing stigma, and improving access to care for individuals affected by addiction.

This activity fosters a compassionate, collaborative, and clinically sound approach to addiction care, emphasizing both medical management and community-based support systems.

Strategies to improve OUD (opioid use disorder) treatment planning are discussed. Review of the overall role and scope of the Peer Support Specialist (PSS) and strategies to minimize and address diversion are highlighted.
