Event Description:
This workshop provides an essential update on the care of children with genetic conditions, focusing on both clinical management and the complex ethical, legal, and social issues involved. Participants will explore the incidence, pathophysiology, and care priorities for selected pediatric genetic conditions, along with strategies for assessment and intervention at the individual and family level. The session aims to support compassionate, evidence-based, and ethically grounded care for children and families affected by genetic disorders.
Objectives
Describe the incidence, pathophysiology, symptoms, and priorities of care for selected pediatric conditions that have a significant genetic component.
Identify assessment and intervention strategies for individuals and families affected by genetic conditions.
Discuss how individuals and families define and manage the ethical, legal, and social issues associated with caring for a child with a genetic condition.
Engage in dialogue regarding the ethical, legal, and social issues raised by genetic testing of children and gene therapy with children.
