Emotional CPR (eCPR) is a public health education program designed to teach people to assist others through an emotional crisis by three simple steps: C = Connecting, P = emPowering, and R = Revitalizing. People who have been through the training consistently report that the skills they learned have helped them communicate better in all their relationships.
Through a combination of presentations, interactive discussions, and dynamic role-plays with reflecting teams, participants will learn about and practice the key concepts involved in effectively supporting a person through an emotional crisis and into healing.
Lunch and morning and afternoon breaks are provided both days of the training.
Lodging is provided at the Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Winston-Salem Downtown, for the evenings of April 21 and 22.
Faculty: W. Reid Smithdeal, MSW, LCSW
Reid is the Behavioral Health Assistant Director at Cherokee Indian Hospital, where he coordinates clinical services and serves on the Leadership Team, providing oversight and support to programs. He believes that services should be focused on “human need” rather than medical necessity and that “the system” often gets in the way of people recovering. Additionally, Reid believes that the only reason we are here is to be in relationships and that the only reason for relationships is to heal. These beliefs guide his advocacy efforts around systematic change. Reid Smithdeal received an AAS in Human Services Technology from Central Piedmont Community College, 2001; BSW from Appalachian State University, 2004; and MSW from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2007.
