Event Description:
Join us for a high-fidelity simulation designed to enhance clinical decision-making and communication skills. During this simulation experience, students will care for a neutropenic patient requiring IV therapy and a blood transfusion. Participants will:
Interpret and evaluate relevant laboratory results
Practice safe and effective IV therapy and transfusion techniques
Communicate clearly and compassionately with the patient
This simulation emphasizes critical thinking, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration in a realistic clinical setting.
Objectives
Assess a neutropenic patient’s condition and identify clinical indicators requiring IV therapy and/or blood transfusion.
Interpret laboratory values relevant to neutropenia, IV therapy, and transfusion safety.
Demonstrate proper techniques for initiating and managing IV therapy and administering blood products.
Recognize signs and symptoms of transfusion reactions and implement appropriate interventions.
Communicate effectively with the patient using therapeutic communication strategies, considering the patient’s immunocompromised status.
