Event Description: This simulation provides participants with the opportunity to care for a patient recovering from diverticulitis with a newly placed temporary colostomy.
Participants will:
Perform colostomy and peristomal skin care, including assessment, cleaning, and appliance management
Administer prescribed medications
Understand the rationale for and manage a nasogastric (NG) tube for bowel rest, including monitoring output and maintaining tube patency
Deliver therapeutic communication and teaching to support patient adjustment to a new ostomy and promote self-care confidence
This simulation promotes critical thinking and hands-on skill development while managing complex gastrointestinal conditions.
